Cox family practice residency program

Being a family doctor has allowed me to pursue diverse clinical interests, which eventually led me down the winding road of Global Health and ultrasound and into the Rwenzori Mountains of Uganda. I am passionate about teaching and mentoring residents and medical students to help them on their journey of becoming excellent physicians. I joined the Cox Family Medicine Residency because this is the kind of place that supports and develops broadly trained and highly competent family doctors.

A will to actualize this perspective has motivated me thus far in my career. I wanted to have versatility and flexibility in my career to be able to tailor my practice to meet the needs of my community.

That is what initially appealed to me about family medicine and particularly, the full-scope training within the Cox Family Medicine Residency Program. Since completing my training and moving forward in my career as a faculty physician within the program, I am eager to devote myself to the needs of my community of underserved patients, resident physicians and fellow faculty physicians. I am very passionate about physician wellness and hope to contribute to its further development within this innovative program in hopes of helping fellow physicians discover their passions, home-work life balance and thrive within this ever changing field of medicine.

I love being involved with soon-to-be parents from the very beginning of their journey when they learn they are pregnant. I aspire to be a source of knowledge and support during this major life event and beyond. I love providing continuity of care and primary care to entire family units. It is an honor to realize that as a family physician, patients trust me with the care of their entire family - from their children to their parents and grandparents.

My own family is what I value most in this life, and it is a great privilege to be involved in the care of multiple generations within a family. A great physician treats the patient who has the disease. Throughout 16 years in private practice, I've learned a therapeutic relationship is the single most effective healing tool in my virtual black bag.

A therapeutic relationship is comprised of mutual trust, a patient's belief I have their best interest at heart and that I care. Without these fundamental building blocks, it doesn't really matter to a patient what else I have to offer or recommend. A therapeutic relationship, much like trust, is earned, not owed. It is the building of a partnership aimed at improving the patient's health. Many times, in family medicine, it is a partnership built with the entire family, aimed at improving the family's health.

My aspiration, as a faculty member, is not only to reach the science of medicine, but also to foster the art of healing. I hope to be able to impart wisdom from lessons learned with life experience. Cox has been practicing in Rutherford College, NC since July of and specializes in family medicine and osteopathic manipulative therapy.

A strong team is what makes Cox Family Medicine successful. We are blessed to have team members who are committed to provide patient-centered care day in and day out. Before hours, after hours, and all the hours in between, this team can be counted on to work tirelessly to meet the needs of our patients! Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine use a unique whole-person approach to help prevent illness and injury. What is a DO?

Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine, or DOs, are fully licensed physicians who practice in all areas of medicine. Emphasizing a whole-person approach to treatment and care, DOs are trained to listen and partner with their patients to help them get healthy and stay well. By combining this knowledge with the latest advances in medical technology, they offer patients the most comprehensive care available in medicine today.

DOs strive to help you be truly healthy in mind, body and spirit—not just free of symptoms. My journey began on a walk with God and my wife! We had a dream to simplify patient care by opening a private practice where patients can get a live person on the phone every time they call, schedule same day appointments, and feel like their healthcare matters to a group of professionals who are wholly committed to providing a great service.

We hope this will be at most for the first 2 months of Although we love to see our patients in the office for a face-to-face visit, during this pandemic, this is not always feasible or appropriate. Our preference is for an e-visit video , but we are able to offer telephone visits. These visits are one-on-one interactions with a PROVIDER physician or physician assistants and, in some situations, a trained nurse is able to perform medicare annual wellness visits via televisits.

If labwork is needed following the televisit, an appointment for labs will be made in our office. We have set up some guidelines for our staff for televisits. If after conducting a televisit, a provider feels you still require an in-house visit, we will schedule you to come in. Ideally, we would like to have some vital signs temperature, blood pressure, and pulse taken by you, the patient. There will be a charge for the telemedicine visit, which we will file with insurance.

Patients will be responsible for any copays, deductibles, or denials by insurance. Please be sure we have your current insurance card so we are able to file correctly. See what the CDC says.
